The Postal Department has suspended a Gramin Dak Sevak mail deliverer posted at Gendehalli in Belur taluk on the charge of not delivering Aadhaar cards for years.
Doreswamy, the extra department agent attached to Gendehalli post office, has been absconding since village residents staged a protest against him on Wednesday.
Complaints
H.V. Anand, officer in-charge of Hassan sub-division, on Thursday, told The Hindu that there were complaints against Doreswamy for not delivering mails, particularly Aadhaar cards.
Other allegations
“He had not delivered around 120 Aadhaar cards in 2013. He had kept them in the public library in the village. Villagers, who noticed the bag, informed the senior officers of the Postal Department,” Mr. Anand said.
There have been allegations that Doreswamy had not delivered many mails and had dumped them in a well, which had dried years ago.
Detailed report
“We searched the well. But we found only waste paper. I took steps to deliver the undelivered Aadhaar cards,” Mr. Anand said, adding that he had sent a detailed report to senior officers.
